What to expect on
your first visit
Your first visit will last 50-60 minutes. The purpose of this visit is to assess and diagnose your condition. The assessment will consist of a history and physical examination focusing on the area of concern. Once a diagnosis has been reached I will discuss my findings with you, and develop a plan of management including a combination of suggested therapies. I will explain the risks and benefits of the suggested therapies, and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Once we have agreed on the plan of management, we can begin treatment.
Treatment on the first visit may include hands on therapies, instruction on home exercises, or passive modalities (heat, ice, etc). I make every effort to provide you some pain relief on your first visit, especially in acute pain cases.
Chiropractors are trained to assess and determine the most appropriate course of action for musculoskeletal conditions. If it is determined that your condition is best treated by another health care professional, I will refer you to the appropriate professional.
X-rays are usually not required. However, if through the clinical examination it is determined that x-rays are needed, I will request them. I prefer to collaborate with your family doctor in obtaining appropriate diagnostic tests, therefore, I do not take x-rays in my office.
Subsequent treatment visits will last either 10-30 minutes. The length of time is determined ahead of time and depends on the amount of therapies provided and/or the amount of body areas being treated. For example, a low back treatment may also require treatment of the hamstrings, gluteal muscles, or mid back.
Shorts and a short sleeve shirt to allow adequate access to the area of concern.
Any diagnostic imaging (x-rays, MRI, etc) previously done. This helps provide a clearer picture of your condition.
What to bring with you
DR. STEFANO BOZZO
My practice is located at Grand River Sports Medicine Centre (GRSM-Cambridge) in historic downtown Galt, where I have proudly worked as part of their multidiciplinary team since 2011. In February 2018 I expanded my practice to Spring Forward Health in Waterloo.
I graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo in 2007, and went on to complete my Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) Degree at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto. I graduated in 2011 with Clinic Honours, and received the Michael Brickman Memorial Award for dedication and outstanding proficiency in Chiropractic Adjusting Technique.
As a student, I was actively involved in extra-curricular education, both as a learner and instructor, focusing on chiropractic adjusting techniques, soft tissue therapies, and spine rehabilitation. I remain committed to continuing education and further developing my manual skills in order to provide the best possible care to my patients.
I am a certified Contemporary Medical Acupuncture provider through McMaster University. I am also a certified provider of Active Release Techniques® (A.R.T.®) Soft-Tissue Management System for which I recertify annually.
Committed to providing the highest standard of evidence-based and patient-centred care.
Focusing on active care gives you the tools to stay strong and pain free.
A firm believer in a team based approach to health care, I have practiced in a multidisciplinary setting since 2011. Working closely with other providers improves exchange of information, allowing for better collaboration and coordination of treatment.
I resolve to achieve the maximum possible benefit in the shortest possible time. For example, a typical acute low back pain treatment plan may have the patient treated twice per week for 2-4 weeks, then once per week for another 2-4 weeks. Through the proper combination of techniques, more then 8 weeks of treatment is rarely needed.
Every case is different, so I employ a variety of techniques to effectively treat both new injuries and chronic pain conditions. I find most conditions respond well to a combination of hands-on joint manipulations/adjustments, various muscles release techniques, and contemporary electro-acupuncture.
I introduce an active home stretching and exercise plan as soon as possible, which is aimed at getting you pain free and back to your activities, while keeping you strong to prevent re-injury.
